VFX Company ‘Double Negative’ opt for Spheron HDR Camera system

Spheron-VR AG, known globally as pioneers in HDR (High Dynamic Range) capture device technology and expert in precision engineered equipment & imaging optics, are pleased to announce that the internationally renown VFX company Double Negative have invested in the latest Spheron HDR Camera equipment.

Double Negative is a global Special Effects industry leader with offices now in both London and Singapore. They have worked on many film productions in the past, such as the Batman, James Bond and the Harry Potter series of movies. Double Negative has now selected the SpheroCam HDR camera unit.

‘Following evaluations, its was clear the cameras ability to automatically capture HDR lighting environments and to record 3D data was a compelling advantage. said Double Negative’s VFX Producer Fay McConkey.  ‘This technology will become a key component in our equipment resources for future productions. Current productions include John Carter Of Mars, Iron Man 2, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, The Wolf Man, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.’

The SpheroCam HDR is able to capture 360º spherical images in a single scan. With 26 f stops of exposure and clarity of up to 50 mega-pixels, the SpheroCam HDR provides the optimum image quality for 3D image rendering. The camera is also excellent at recording spatial data, using its 3D immersive measurement technology; it enables CG objects to be placed into any location - bridging the gap between real world photography and computer graphics modeling.

Peter Taylor, Business Manager SpheronVR, is delighted by the decision of this major player within the film & effects industry: ‘We are very pleased that Double Negative’s CG team will be using SpheronVR Technologies. High Dynamic Range (HDR) imagery is such a key part to many VFX productions and it’s great to see our technology assisting in this process.’
